Brandy McGill is currently a reporter at WLOX News in Biloxi, Mississippi. Brandy joined the news team in December 2019 after graduating from The University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism (Southern Miss…To The Top!)

Brandy was raised in Hattiesburg, MS, where she attended North Forrest High School. In high school, Brandy was active with student media when she became a member of digital media where she shot, directed, and edited short films.

As a reporter, Brandy goes out in the field with an open mind to tell stories to the best of her ability for South Mississippi. Brandy pitches, shoots, and edits stories. Once television packages are done, she writes a web story to match the package created. With one package, Brandy has wrote different versions of stories as VOS to air in different shows. Not only does Brandy write scripts for her packages, but also intros, tags, SOTVO, and VOs. Brandy is proficient with Edius and NPS.  Brandy is a reporter but she describes her work as storytelling and being the voice for those who may not have one. While out in the community, Brandy enjoys building lasting relationships.

Brandy has interned at WDAM News 7 in Moselle, MS where she went out to shoot stories then returning to the station to edit and create packages. She also produced the midday and five o’clock shows, lead the quality review (QR) meetings, gathered content to build a show, and wrote scripts. Brandy’s most memorable time as an intern was interacting with the community to generate feature stories.

Outside of work, Brandy has a passion for being a mom to her son. Brandy is delighted with shopping, exercising, and meeting new people. Whenever Brandy may find a little free time, you can find her watching one of her absolute favorite television shows, “Being Mary Jane.”

Brandy is inspired by a quote by Oprah Winfrey: “The key is not to worry about being successful, but to instead work toward being significant- and the success will naturally follow.”
